Tip of the week 6 February 2007

When faced with a self-criticizing voice in your head, visualize your favorite silly cartoon character in your head (e.g. Goofy or Miss Piggy) and make them speak the words that your voice was saying, but in their silly voice. The whole situation becomes funny, and you suddenly start feeling better.- If it is a specific situation that is bothering you, imagine the situation again in your head, only now, all the people have cartoon faces and voices, while their head inflates more and more, out of proportion. Again, the whole situation becomes funny an d makes you dissociate it from the previous negative feelings.
