Tip of the week 19 June 2007

If you want to be a successful leader, the first step is to be a good listener. However, it might be sometimes hard to focus on a conversation in some situations full of distractions.

How to ignore those distractions?

1) Focus on the conversation, mentally and visually.

2) Look at the person who is speaking.

3) Tell yourself to focus, focus, focus….

4) If feeling that you can not follow the speaker, interrupt the person properly by asking questions or repeating points to help yourself understand better.

I also want to take this opportunity to congratulate Amin on his new role as

transition will be as smooth as possible.

Thanking everyone for their kind patience, see you all next week,

Tip of the week 12 June 2007

Control of Breath before speaking can calm nerves which can be achieved through a short meditation exercise. Breathe in for a count of 5, hold for 7, then breathe out for 9. This will also help you focus on the task at hand.

Poll

In the light of concerns that exists about handshaking at the lectern during the flu season, do you think that the McGill TM club should temporarily dispense with this form of formal greeting?
